Grotberg Electric has a staff of more than 75
employees in North Dakota, with many of them
doing their work at the Bobcat manufacturing
facility (Bobcat is one of the world’s leaders in
compact industrial equipment). Interestingly
enough, however, many
of these Grotberg Electric
employees aren’t electricians.
In fact, they don’t deal with
electricity at all. Instead, they
work with filters, and it’s a
much bigger job than you
might think. Bobcat relies
on Grotberg Electric for
its filters – and Grotberg
Electric, in turn, counts
on DSG.
Almost three decades ago,
two Grotberg Electric
electricians traveled 75
miles from the home
office in Valley City, ND
to do some work for the
burgeoning Bobcat plant in Gwinner. It went
well, and with the advent of computerization –
and, more importantly, robotics – Grotberg
Electric found a niche: helping Bobcat with all of
its growing electrical needs.
Brendan Ciesynski shows off the new
office under construction in Gwinner.
Grotberg Electric/Triton Mechanical are transitioning
to a new type of filter for their installations. By working
with DSG, the installation process will become
significantly more efficient.
In the early 1990s, Bobcat introduced huge air
filtration systems into its manufacturing process.
It benefited employees by improving air quality,
but it also presented a new set of challenges.
Specifically, who would be responsible for
maintaining and replacing
the enormous volume of
filters that these systems
used on a daily basis?
Grotberg Electric was already
a valued partner and
consequently seemed like a
good fit to help with Bobcat’s
filtration demands.
Today, Grotberg Electric
has an entire subsidiary
(Triton Mechanical) devoted
to serving the HVAC and air
filtration needs of Bobcat.
Triton Mechanical employs
a full-time staff to work on
the plant’s HVAC systems
and other employees who
work around the clock changing filters.
Each day, the Triton Mechanical crew changes
nearly 100 filters (and all filters are recycled
when they are removed). To put that number
into perspective, there are five semi-trailers
full of air filters parked outside of Gwinner’s
Bobcat manufacturing facility – permanently.
That’s a lot of filters, and they all come from
one source: DSG.
