Filter economics. It sounds sort of strange
when you say it out loud, but it’s becoming an
increasingly important part of the business
of filtration. Filter economics is the
understanding of the total cost of ownership
in relation to filtration. The actual cost of a
filter is minimal when considering the total
cost life cycle of a filter. Consideration has to
be given to storage space and inventory costs,
shipping costs, handling during installation,
disposal costs, energy costs, damage reduction
and the effects of indoor air quality.
Did you know that the EPA has discovered
that sick building syndrome has an annual
economic impact of $60 billion per year
in direct (medical) and indirect (lost
productivity) costs? It’s not the cost of the filter
- it’s the total cost of ownership of the filter.
The story of Triton Mechanical/Grotberg
Electric is a good example. When you read it,
you’ll see that they are transitioning from a
pleated air filter to a ring panel filter. This small
change will make a big difference in how many
boxes Triton technicians need to lug around
and store. It will make it significantly easier for
them to do their job while still maintaining
filter performance.
The economics of filters comes into play
when you analyze the price difference between
ring panel filters and pleated filters. The filters
are similar in cost, but after you consider how
many man-hours and storage costs ring panel
filters save, filter economics shows that this
change will reduce the total cost of ownership.
Very few people spend a lot of time thinking
about their filters. That’s OK. Everyone has an
important job to do. Mine just happens to be
thinking about filters. That’s why DSG can
be proactive when it comes to the technology of
filtration. We analyze the best combination
of innovative products so you don’t have to.
By nature, filtration will always be a dirty job.
But it can also be an efficient one – one that
can reduce the cost of ownership.
Curious? Let’s set up a time for us to talk
filter economics. You’ll be surprised by how
much it can help your bottom line.
