Partners – it’s an interesting concept really. By
definition, it means a relationship in which both
parties share in the risks and the rewards. In other
words, it’s all about two people or businesses
working together to get the job done. But I don’t
think that’s quite accurate, especially when it
comes to the utility business. When it comes to
DSG and our customers in the utility industry, a
partnership is a business relationship that helps
the job get done better.
That’s an important distinction. A lot of
companies want your business. They likely talk
about customer service, experience and product
offerings. Some of them even talk about price.
Here’s what’s different about DSG: we’re less
interested in selling you something, and more
interested in selling you the right thing.
What’s the difference? Mostly, it’s about short-
term goals versus long-term goals. We want to sell
you equipment that works hard and lasts long.
We also look for new, different and improved
ways of helping you do what you do. Our focus is
never on what the sale means to DSG alone, but
instead, on what the sale can do for your company
and our company – together. That means looking
far beyond short-term concepts, such as margins
and account balances. It means that DSG’s main
priorities lie instead with the health and growth of
the relationship itself. The success of both partners
taken as a whole is what is most important.
What does that mean specifically? It means that
DSG will never sell you something for the sake
of selling you something. Our utility customers
(and all of our customers, for that matter) are too
important to us to risk the partnerships we develop
for the sake of short-sighted gains. My goal is to get
rid of the phrase “I buy from DSG” and replace
it with the phrase “I work with DSG.” It’s a pretty
subtle difference, but an important one.
As an employee-owned company, DSG is made
up entirely of people who have a firsthand
understanding of how a successful partnership can
benefit everyone involved. Let us show you how we
can make it work for you, as well.
