The Outdoors: A Common Thread
Wondering why the cover of this issue seems
to have an “outdoors” theme? It’s not because I
love hunting and fishing (although that would
be a true statement). Nope, it’s because you
love hunting and fishing. Or, at least, the vast
majority of DSG’s customers do.
Now, don’t get me wrong. All of our customers
are not the same. Quite the opposite. We serve
companies in different industries, of differing
sizes and in different parts of the Midwest.
A communications professional in Williston,
North Dakota, is probably a lot different than an
electrician in Bemidji, Minnesota. On the other
hand, the longer I’m in this business, the more I
find that these two individuals probably have a lot
in common. For example, there’s a good chance
that they both value early Saturday mornings
in the boat with their kids, eagerly awaiting the

first bite of the day. I also know from experience
that many of our customers love a crisp autumn
afternoon, searching the horizon for a flock of
geese or a trophy buck.
Why is it that our customers seem to love the
outdoors as much as our employees? It’s hard to
say, really. Perhaps it’s the shared experiences
of Midwestern youth. One thing is for certain,
though – we have a lot in common. Aside from
our passion for hunting, fishing, camping and
hiking, we all share a deep commitment to
customer satisfaction and a strong Midwestern
work ethic. We work hard, and our customers
work really hard. The resulting teamwork leads
to more and more “jobs well done” each year.
This work ethic has a flip side, and that’s
where the outdoors comes back into the picture.
There’s nothing quite as relaxing as an excursion
with friends and family, whether it involves
pheasants in South Dakota or walleye on Lake of
the Woods. In fact, we think that the outdoors is
so important that we’ve added a “DSG Outdoors”
section to our web site. The next time you visit
www.dakotasupplygroup.com, click on the link
with the camouflage and check out what both
customers and employees are doing in the great
outdoors. You can even upload your own photo
and share your memories with your friends
across DSG country.
After all, we’re more alike than we are different,
and that’s one of the reasons I love working here
at DSG.
