The Golden Rule
Treat others as you would want to be treated.
It’s a golden rule that has stood the test of time.
However, for Mike Niemela, owner of Mike’s
Plumbing & Heating, it goes beyond that. To him,
it’s just as important to work with businesses that
treat their customers the same way he treats his
own customers. That’s why he works hand in hand
with DSG.
Niemela founded Mike’s Plumbing &
Heating with his wife, Brenda, in 1992. The
HVAC/plumbing company does 99.9 percent of
its work on residential projects within a 12-mile
radius of New York Mills, Minnesota, in addition
to a minor amount of service work for
commercial customers.

life. It’s a charming town in east central Minnesota,
where everyone knows everyone else, and everyone
feels at home. “I started this business so I could
continue to connect with the people of this area,”
says Niemela. “We have only good, loyal people
here in New York Mills.”
In fact, Niemela is well known as a “people
person.” In addition to 24-hour service, he offers
free mini-golf (on a course he constructed near
his shop) to families and kids in the area. He has
also volunteered in the Youth Exchange Program
and accommodated exchange students from
Switzerland, Norway, Germany and Finland.
